What kind of leather are your belts made from?
Our belts are made of natural and dyed vegetable tan (harness) full-grain leather and each belt is approximately 10-12 oz in thickness, ensuring a high-durability product. Full-grain leather consists of the outer layer of the hide that has not been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections. You might have owned a "Genuine leather" belt which is the lowest quality of leather you can get and will typically crack and break apart.
Nothing beats a full grain leather belt and the way it not only lasts, but "ages" over time.
We are proud to custom fit our belts for our customers here in our Edmonton store front or ship you a belt following a purchase through our online store.
Where do you source your leather?
As makers we source our leather from a few local and Canadian suppliers that get leather from all over the world. Most of our bags and wallets are from a tannery in Minnesota called "SB. Foot Tannery Co" which is owned by Red Wing Boots. This tanning company has been around for generations and its commitment to high-quality, full-grain leather resonates with us at Clo’s General.
How do I take care of my new leather product?
Taking care of your new bag or wallet is not as daunting as one might think. You will need to take care of it to ensure that it will withstand the test of time. Just like your skin, if you feel it’s dry it’s probably time for some lotion. We like to say that it is a great idea to condition your products in the Spring and again come winter.
We sell a leather conditioner made of a blend of all natural ingredients to care for your Clos General leather products. If you have some at home already, just make sure it’s not a petroleum-based product as they tend to dry the leather over time.
Does Clo’s General do custom work?
The short answer is no. We prefer to stay focused on our tested and true products and use our time to add to our current offerings. As the company has grown we have had to move away from one-off designs/custom work.
That said, we do offer a “BUILD-YOUR-OWN-BAG” experience where, you the customer, can come in and be part of a bespoke design process.
